There is no doubt in my mind that if people had to choose one utility, it would be plumbing.  People would struggle by without electricity, air conditioning and internet but would not last long without clean water and sanitary drains.

Regardless of whether you agree with me about the importance of plumbing, you are probably like most people who take for granted that water will flow from the tap and down the drain.  EAB Training Center is helping ensure plumbing’s reliability by offering a Plumbing Commissioning Provider (CxP) class. The class teaches students the skill of verifying plumbing systems found in most commercial and institutional buildings.

I am a long time member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) and am Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD).  I brought my passion for plumbing to the creation of the Cx Plumbing System course.  Attendees receive a review of system fundamentals including:

  • Water, waste, and vents
  • Piping and joint types
  • Understanding plumbing construction documents
  • Water softeners, reverse osmosis, and deionized water systems
  • Sump pumps
  • Medical gasses
  • Fuel systems

The fundamentals knowledge ensures students are prepared to evaluate system verification checklists (SVCs) and perform functional performance tests (FPTs) under the supervision of EAB’s veteran CxPs who have commissioned many plumbing systems in schools, hospitals, office buildings, research facilities, higher education buildings, and residential buildings.

EAB partnered with Cougar Sales who have a plumbing training center that includes operating booster pumps, break tank, water softener, domestic hot water heating system and pressure reducing stations.  Students verify the equipment under the supervision of EAB’s veteran CxPs and Cougar Sales’ subject matter experts (SME).

Anyone responsible for designing, commissioning, or installing plumbing systems should consider attending EAB’s Cx Plumbing class.  It is a unique opportunity to learn how essential plumbing systems work following by practical experience working with the equipment.

For companies of every size, bringing new team members on board often adds pressure to existing staff, who must manage their own responsibilities while also guiding newcomers who may not yet recognize their knowledge gaps or fully understand the rationale behind certain tasks. As many have noticed, there is a shortage of qualified TAB and Commissioning technicians to meet current demand, and we are seeing that reality here at the EAB Training Center.

The students entering our programs are arriving with less field experience than previous classes, and we are genuinely excited to welcome this next generation of technicians. Accelerating their skill development enables them to contribute sooner and helps alleviate the burden on the rest of the team. While becoming a highly capable TAB or Cx professional ultimately requires time in the field, our training significantly shortens that learning curve and exposes students to concepts and scenarios that would otherwise take much longer to encounter on the job. Training with EAB Training is an investment that begins paying off immediately, while also letting your team know that you want to build them into fully equipped professionals.
