Career Progression

1970
Gaylon graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Management degree.
1971
Gaylon started his career at EAB as a Technician.
1977
Gaylon opened the Houston branch in 1977.
1982 – 2010
Gaylon was Vice President of EAB for 28 years.
1983
Gaylon became a member of ASHRAE.
1988
Gaylon led the Bexar County Jail project. Findings from this project were used to develop ASHRAE’s guideline for commissioning smoke management systems approved in 1994. 
1991
Gaylon led the USAA Corporate Office Expansion project. EAB’s involvement in this project was one of the reasons for the opening of EAB’s San Antonio branch.

Gaylon opened the San Antonio branch in 1991.
1993
Gaylon oversaw the smoke control system test at the Alamodome. The purpose of this test was to demonstrate to the fire marshal that in the event of a fire the occupants had sufficient time to exit before the smoke plume fell from the 170-foot-high ceiling to the seating area. EAB built a controlled 10-megawatt fire with an equal amount of smoke and led a project team to collect and analyze the data.

The valuable findings were used by NFPA and the ASHRAE technical committee for smoke control system design to revise the mathematical models for all large-volume public assembly spaces, impacting the design of large smoke control systems.

1995
Gaylon received ASHRAE’s Distinguished Service Award.
1996
Gaylon became President of the Houston ASHRAE Chapter.
2002
In 2002, Gaylon received the honor of becoming a fellow of ASHRAE by making substantial contributions to the arts and sciences of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning.
2005
Gaylon managed the M.D. Anderson George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Science Research Building. Under his leadership, the EAB team performed integrated system testing in building commissioning, which launched EAB into the Building Commissioning industry.

2010-2020
Gaylon served as President of EAB for 10 years.
2014
Gaylon joined the AABC Board of Directors and became Vice President for the Western Region.
2020-2021
Served as Vice President of EAB.
2022-Present
In 2022, Gaylon was honored with the AABC Hall of Fame award recognizing his lifetime of providing extraordinary service and contributions to the association, and to the field of testing and balancing. While serving as an AABC committee member he was promoted to President of AABC. Gaylon continues to mentor as an EAB Training instructor

Which of these core values (Integrity, Quality, Consistency and Teamwork) do you most identify with, and what does it mean to you?

Each of EAB’s core values are crucial in delivering an optimum operating facility. We maintain a reputation of providing quality work to each client because our staff is specifically trained in the markets we serve. Because of this, our clients have peace of mind that their buildings are providing comfort and safety to the occupants. Consistency is key to providing the same quality service no matter which team is representing EAB. Teamwork is displayed by working with our clients and each contractor to complete the project. However, I believe integrity is and will always be the foundation of EAB. Our clients trust that EAB will always deliver buildings that are operating at their optimal level or make suggestions on how to reach an optimal level.

What is your ideal room temperature, and why?

If the airflow and controls are properly set, the ideal room temperature is 73 degrees.

What is your absolute favorite thing about working for EAB?
